White Waterlily
They love the sun and are more situated further out along the shoreline were the sun is the brightest.
Location of this Waterlily is: Davis Lake (Wauconda) Lakewood Forest Preserve of Lake County
The ponds and lakes out in this area are filled with Waterlilies and Pickerelweeds at this time of the year.
Blooming time starting in June into September
Fragant Waterlily (Nymphaea odorata)
A floating aquatic plant with fragrant white flowers and flat floating leaves
The width of the flower is 3”-5” (7.5cm-12.5cm) wide there are many petals narrowing in width towards the center and intergrading with numerous yellow stamens, sepals 4, green, pistil compound, with several united parts.
The leaves are 4” – 12” (10cm – 30cm) in diameter, shiny green above and purplish red beneath.
It also contains fruit which is fleshy and ripens beneath the water on coiled stalks
Habitat: Ponds, Lakes, open quiet waters. |
