[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Shield Bugs (Eurydema ventrale). These are nymphs which have not yet developed wings. They are feeding on the leaf of a Caper plants (Capparis species). Bugs like this have piercing mouthparts that enable them to suck liquid from plant tissue. If breeding conditions are good they can be a real pest. You can see the damage on the leaf they are clustered on.

This picture was taken in Loutro on the island of Crete and virtually every caper plant we saw was smothered with these pretty bugs. Their vivd colour warns predators that they exude foul smelling and tasting chemicals if harmed. This gives them their other common name of Stink Bugs.

Hi Vinny,

I like your photo with strong colors and very good image. You used very well the DOF getting all the insects in focus. Image is sharp rendering even the finmest details of the bugs.

This is a very good shot of these shield bugs. A delightful close-up, with sharp details and pleasant colours. I love the buffed look. All spick and span, and shiny. The greenery brings out the bright colours of the beetles well. Interesting to see that the patterns and markings on the body are nearly all identical. Well done and thanks for sharing.
