While walking my dog yesterday, I spotted this giant swallowtail in the middle of this flower. Actually, I walked by it once; from where I was, the tips of the wings looked like a natural part of the flower - and then I looked a little closer and realized that if this photo turned out, it would be my most unusual yet.
The program kept telling me the photo was too large (and it wasn't!), but this was the largest it would allow me to upload - a pity because it is actually much better larger...
I had the ISO on 400, but because butterflies tend to move quickly (especially for such small little insects - depending on one's view of small), I set the camera on sports mode.
Having been laid up for several days, I was willing to shoot anything, but I was looking for butterflies in particular.
Both me and my dog managed to walk to the university and back - without a single stumble, fall, scratch, bite, or hive... (I know, amazing!)
This photo is different from my usual, but sometimes it's fun to experiment - and butterflies, to me, are peaceful creatures, not to mention fragile, pretty, and interesting.
This was hand held (The dog leash and tripod might've been a little much...) and shot in Jpeg. I cropped, framed, and then unsharped a tad. |

Your Official "bobshannon.org" publisher:-) It is a swallowtail and there are a lot of them around this year...but as you know they can jump buildings in a single fly like Superman!
