While on a leisurely hike this weekend at Summit Lake State Park, near New Castle, Indiana, I observed untold numbers of insects gathering pollen on the flowers throughout the meadow.
I enjoyed the contrast between the busy working ants, bees, and other insects, and the lazy droning cicadas, whose songs from the trees were as ubiquitous as the flowers in the fields.
This ant, like many others, was coated with the pollen it was gathering from what I believe to be a Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota) or some close relative. |

Great macro Randy,
Very sharp and detailed with good POV and DOF. Love the pollen he has all over his face. Almost reminds me of my kids when they were younger after eating powdered donuts.
Well done!!
Ron

Hi Randy
An interesting scene of this any covered in pollen. I suspect it was after the nectar and it just gets covered in the porocess, then carries pollen to the next flower and polinates it. Good sharpness and POV.

Hi Randy,
Very cool shot, a nicely balanced image. The almost monochrome background of flowers really results in the eye being drawn to the ant.

Nice macro of this pollen covered ant. Shows he and you both get into your work... ;) Great shot. TFS.
