Nelumbo nucifera ou lotus sacré, lotus des Indes, lotus Magnolia observé sur l’Isola Madre, l’une des îles Borromées.
"C'est la fleur sacrée dans les religions orientales (bouddhisme, brahmanisme) dans lesquelles les divinités sont représentées sur un trône en fleur de lotus. Le lotus sacré est la fleur nationale de l’Inde.
Le lotus sacré est une plante aquatique de la famille des Nélumbonacés, vivace grâce à sa tige en rhizome spongieux, épais, ramifié, portant des tubercules fixés dans le fond de l'étang.
Ses feuilles arrondies, peltées, pouvant mesurer jusqu'à 50 cm de diamètre, sont soit flottantes, planes, soit érigées jusqu'à 75 cm au-dessus de l'eau, orbiculaires, en forme de coupe. Leur surface est particulièrement hydrofuge.
Les fleurs, de couleur blanc rosé, sont grandes, de 15 à 30 cm de diamètre, et comportent une vingtaine de pétales. Elles sont portées par de longs pédoncules et atteignent ou dépassent les feuilles les plus hautes.
Le "fruit" composé est constitué par le réceptacle floral charnu ; il ressemble à une pomme d'arrosoir comptant de 15 à 20 alvéoles renfermant chacune un akène de la taille d'une petite noisette.
Cette plante est naturalisée un peu partout. Elle est originaire des régions chaudes, principalement d'Asie, (Extrême-Orient, Chine, Corée, Japon, etc., Asie tropicale, Inde, Viêt Nam, Philippines, Indonésie, etc., Asie occidentale, Iran, Azerbaïdjan, etc.), et du Nord de l'Australie. Elle était déjà décrite par Théophraste dans la flore du Nil." (Wikipédia – L’encyclopédie libre)

hi gerard,
this is nice way of capturing the lotus. i haven't seen a white lotus yet, which i belive also sacred to egypt pharos. good work.

This is an excellent capture of the lotus showing good textural details of the petals, and the inner stigma and stamens.
You have used the light really well and the dof.

Still a tendancy to compose very centrally but the rest of the shot is excellent!

Excellent capture of this beautiful Lotus flower from a low POV. Very fine details and beautiful colours. Nice light and I like the shadows on the petals. Well done!
