Great Diving Beetle (Dytiscus marginalis) is one of the member of the Family Dytiscidae (A large family, related to the ground beetles) is much modified for life in water. The head is sunk partly back into the thorax and the whole outline is smoothly rounded, while the hind legs are usually broad and flat and fringed with hairs for efficient swimming. Males of many species have swollen front tarsi, with which they grip females during mating. The beetles renew their air-supplies by coming to the surface tail-first. They nearly all fly well. Most can be found throughout the year, although they may hibernate in the coldest months. Adults and larvae are all fiercely carnivorous.

Great Diving Beetle. Reddish brown with a deep green sheen, although latter disappears after death. Male elytra very smooth: those of female usually dull and ribbed. Pronotum has yellow border all round. Weedy ponds and other still waters: often very common.

The Larvaa and adult both attack frogs and newts as well as fishes, tadpoles, and various invertebrates. They prefers the large lakes. In my shot you can see its larva while it was attacking the Taurus frog tadpole. We observed this during our research in Bolkar Mounts. A detailed shot of the mouth parts of the Great Diving Beatle larva in WS.

Merhaba Mehmet,
Great capture of a Dytiscus marginalis larva with its tadpole prey: both the larva and Taurus Frog tadpole are sharply shown on the nnet that caught them. It would have been impossible to see this without capture.
Thanks for sharing this bit of drama!
Selamlar,

Hello Mehmet,

Excellent capture of this larva of Great Diving Beetle. Very good focus and sharpness. I wonder how long it takes to kill and to completely eat the tadpole.

My dear brother Mehmet!
I am amazed at this beautiful shot!
Very well done, my brother!

This image is clearly from a person who knows his subject, Mehmet.
It is a split-second action you have recorded in this shot with immaculate precision. I can imagine these are small creature, so what we see here is the size magnified manifold.
The sheen on the bodies of tadpole and beetle reflects the blue of the sky.
All in all, it is a picture from you worth waiting for.
Well done and all the best.

Hi Mehmet,
Wonderful shot and this action moment is captured with perfect timing and skill. The net forms a fine BG and lets the subjects stand out. The drama which happens below the water is aptly portrayed here. Very neat and sharp image with perfect lighting.

Hello Mehmet

A super documentation of this larva feeding on a frog tadpole.
The details are sharp with very good natural colour.
I can actually see you in the reflection on the tadpole's back.
It is amazing that these insect larvae can feed on frogs and fish as well.

What an interesting picture ! I have never seen something like this before, really impressive, I love those big "teeth" biting at the poor tadpole. Excellent details too on both animals, and a very interesting note too, I enjoyed reading it. Very well done !

Hallo Mehmet
This is not my favourite subject as it looks very slimy and soggy, but I must compliment you on the great detail you captured with this Great Diving Beetle Larva. The motion and action captured is very interesting. I just mentioned to Janice that Trek Nature is a wonderful site with not only beautiful photos but also photos with educational value. If you did not photograph and post this moment, I would never even have known of this kind of larva. Thanks for photographing and sharing this larva with us. It is much appreciated.
Best regards
Anna
