A male Redwing Blackbird displaying hsi shoulders.

This is not what everyone is used to, however, I purposely waited for the backview. It shows the full display and if one were to see it from the front the majority would be missed.
The lighting I especially liked as it is coming from a 10 o'clock position at 8:00 pm. Old cattails are in view as is the small swamp that these birds commonly are found.
Tomorrow, I will post the female.

In photoshop elements, crop, resize for web, a highpass with a softlight, a usm and frames.

I can see your 100-300 works pretty well with the 20D. Very good composition against a perfectly blurred BG; the backview works for me here. Enjoy!

Mike, a wonderful POV on this great looking bird!
I did a ws for something to do ;-) only to emphasize one thing. Let me know what you think.
Great capture and thankyou.

Hi Mike,

This is different and therefore pleasant. I think you did great to wait for the backview. Great BG, tack sharp, well composed. Maybe the main subject is a little bit dark, but that's a minor nit. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

The birds is little dark as mention, but it's a minor nit.

Hi Mike!
Excellent moment and composition. I like asymetric framing, dynamic pose of bird, its colours. Warm light and 'water' mood complete your great post.

Hello Mike!
Wonderful 2.post with your new camera.Lighting,BG and composition are wonderful.TFS...:-)

An unusual and interesting photo! Perfect exposure and nice and sharp.
Perhaps you could give me a tip, Mike, what do you mean by 'highpass with a softlight'? This is obviously some post-processing. What does it do? I use Photoshop CS and CS2.

Interesting shot, but the bird is to dark.

Anna Lu's workshop shows that you had a good shot, I'm surprised you posted before revealing its true beauty.

Hello Mike, I like this POV that displays the shoulder reds so well.. Unique pose with the bird on its precarious perch..Well done my friend!
