I believe this to be a ruby crowned kinglet, but the red top is not apparent.
The tiny size and rapid metabolism of kinglets means that they must constantly forage in order to provide their energy needs. They will continue feeding even when nest building. Kinglets prevented from feeding may lose a third of their body weight in twenty minutes and may starve to death in an hour. Kinglets are insectivores, preferentially feeding on insects such as aphids and springtails that have soft cuticles. Prey is generally gleaned from the branches and leaves of trees, although in some circumstances prey may be taken on the wing or from the leaf litter on the ground.(wiki)

Hi Doug!

I have no idea why this picture have so little comments, I think it's really great! Dynamism, colours, composition... congratulations! Sharp view on head, eye to eye contact while wings are in move is very hard to reach.

Cheers!
Adrian

I must ask..did you use a tablet for signature input? Certainly it isn't a font and I find it impossible to use a mouse that good..

and fine focused

best sERGIO

What a beauty! Love the way the wings were the only thing in motion. And what a wonderful expression on the face!

hello Doug

excellent shot of the kinglet catched on a great pose and action of the bird, with beautiful autumnla background, TFS

Hi Doug,
They are very tinny and fast little birds. I have seen many this autumn in my apple trees especially in October when they were preparing to hit south. Even if I have tried hard, I never managed a good shot of them. This is a funny capture showing us how fast they can be. I guess that you could have froze the movement using a very, very fast shutter speed but the effect here is nice. Thanks,
Claudine

Hallo Doug
This is such a great image, not just because of the movement you captured in the wings but also because of the emotion you captured in the bird's eyes. I also like what you have done to the background and how you have blurred it out. It displays beautifully.

Since you not have been posting on Trek Nature for such a long time, I do not know if you will see this critique or not, but I am going to write it anyway. I have decided to go back to my 1st postings here on Trek Nature and visit the members who welcomed me when I just started and ask the question, where are you and why have you disappeared, as I really, really miss all the older members to the site and you are one of them.

Best regards
Anna
