I think the image of this post really shows what I mean: getting colder.

There are things we cannot change and the seasons are part of that. Which is fine with me except that one has to be ready for the changes incurred. Fall means to us, in the northern part of North America, getting colder.

That's what I mean here. I walked with Toupti and my fingers were freezing on the body of the camera. The wind was high and I could see the chills on the waves of the lake. At the foreground, you can see a patch of ice newly formed. You can see some other patches further in the frame. The light is very dim, it is 4:30 PM and the sun is already behind the mountains. I imagine you, TN members, living in Iceland or in northern Europe, with very few hours of light during the day. I really sympathize because what I find hard at that time of the year isn't the cold coming in, it's the darkness.

Yet, there is so much beauty in the excesses of nature. Rendering cold in a picture is not so easy but with the help of light, it becomes obvious.

I didn't change many things on the picture, I cropped slightly at the bottom and I didn't touch the levels nor the saturation because I thought it was very well rendered. It is a little dark but with the sun facing the camera at that hour, it is inevitable. It's also been resized for TN.

I hope you enjoy this beautiful sight of freezing Lac Pierre as much as I did walking around looking for the best light. I thought of you all along, trying to bring back a frrrrreezing picture.

Have a good weekend,

Francine

A wonderful picture! :) The difference in on the surface between the ice cover and the waves is incredible. With such beautiful color, I would have thought the foreground was super calm water if there weren't waves coming so sharply against the ice.

Nice picture........

Hello Francine
from the photo we feel winter is arriving. The colors from the cold tonalities of the sky and water optimally are contrasted from the dark shapes of the trees.

Bonjur Francine,
A splendid scene really well captured!
Yes, your image indicates that the weather is getting colder, thank to point out it to us:) Yesterday and today, in Istanbul, have been a strong south winds(Lodos).
TFS and have a nice sunny:) sunday!
Cheers,

Bayram

Think flashing coloured light of red, blue and green..and small candles lit in the room with some incense for the natural burning of some pine or fir...then add some sage for smudge on top of the cookstove...put on some Vivaldi or maybe George Winston...read a good book and know that what you posted and what you said was a good thin.

Bonjour Francine,

I would love to send you some warmth!! But then you wouldn't have a beautiful scene like this. An amazing shot of the rippled water against the newly formed ice. The reflection of the sun rays on the water are so lovely. The sky is wonderful. A superb seascape and composition.

Hello Francine

I know this look, you have captured cold well.
It doesn't take long to freeze over, I saw some birds dropping by my bird bath today but all they could do is skate on it.
Excellent dark tones, and the light is well done. The ice sheets show well.
Great job.

Hi Francine.
You have reflected the state of weather at this season greatly. Amazing cold impressive lights and colour palette. The crisp sharp details underlines the main theme of the shot. I think dark key of the execution of the scene is perfect and suitable for the subject excellently. My kind regards and TFS.
Alexei.

Hello Francine,

Nice notes.
Good pov and colours on this picture and indeed it's colder.
We have here the first snowfall with hard windy weather.

Hello Francine,
A fine image showing the approach of winter, both the lighting and spreading ice on the lake showing the time of the year very well in this excellently composed picture.
We arrived back from our vacation to be confronted by snow and sub-zero temperatures-brrr!
TFS this beautiful reminder of our climate.
Ivan

Hi Nina,
Colder here too..but nothing like you experience there of course.
If it hits freezing overnight in Central Texas, I whine ;-}
So what happened to "Global Warming"? I saw statistics the other day that showed average winter temps were lower here North America in recent years.
Nice job of exposing this one under these conditions - Brrrr :)
