This shot probably belongs more on TrekEarth than here. But since my posting from yesterday of a cluster of agaves here on TN generated such an interest, I thought I would follow it up with this shot of the better known agave. The tall straight masts (three to four meters) are often seen on the cover of travel catalogues for the Canarian Islands. And they are all over the place. But the real subject of this shot was actually the valley which was inhabited until the 1920s and the arrival of modern transport. It can only be reached on foot (or mule) by a two-hour trek along a fairly narrow ledge, so it does make you wonder at how isolated people - in what is in fact part of Europe - lived less than 100 years ago. Today the agave plants and the other cacti rule the valley. And the ruins of the village have become the ideal habitat for lizards and (harmless) snakes.
This time I didn't sharpen - only resize and saturate slightly. And the sky was overcast that day!
----
I just realised that if my previous posting of agave was the big M for MacDonalds, then this one is definitely the big W for Volkswagen. And neither was on purpose.

Intresting Crossover image, shows well how nature will reclaim and make use of what we leave behind. I think the agave is an import from central america, but it does look very settled here.

What is this site coming to if we are advertising cars and fast food outlets? Just joking. This shot belongs here on TN as we are learning of nature as well. It is interesting how nature reclaims land, using pioneer plants, then settling with more permanant growths like these. Thanks for posting and I like the composition a lot. I will now be looking for natures adds on BMW, Merc Volvo etc.

great shot,a nd information, yes nature reclaims what man builds....

Nice follow up. These one I know from sight. Never knew it's Agaves. We call 'em "Sisal" Very good landscape shot you made. The details are good.

very nice shot of this beautiful landscape!
compo and colours are good.well, just beautiful!

A good view of this plant. Is this the one they make tequilla from?

I'm glad you were able to get good colors and some details in the sky.

Beautiful valley. As a small defect: the colours are a little blue.[I have this agave ("pitas" where I live) even in my window in a plant pot].
