Those of you who saw my forum post yesterday will know that I've been away in the mountains again.
I walked the Croesus track across the Paparoa Ranges from Blackball to Barrytown with my son Aqua.
Much of the middle section of the track is at around 1000 metres above sea level, and in many places there is an abundance of alpine orchids, as well as alpine sundews, South Island Eidelweiss, and many other fascinating alpine plants.
I also got some great shots of the amazing beech 'cloud forest' lower down, which I'll post in the next few days.

I'm off to the mountains again tomorrow, this time to Arthurs Pass, to see those naughty Keas again, and hopefully photograph the Mount Cook Lily.
I'll be back tomorrow night, and will TRY to catch up with a few more critiques.

Cheers
Steve

Hello Steve,
It sounds like you had a fantastic walk in the mountains with your son. Incredible to hear that there is such an abundance of orchids and other alpine flowers. This is not a common impression one has of New Zealand!
This is a real beauty and very nicely captured. I expect it is a very tiny flower that is often overlooked. Excellent sharpness and colours and I love the long petals. Very interesting too.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Hi Steve!

Are you absolutelly sure this is orchid? For me it looks like soaring African Elephant [Slon Afrykanski in Polish] taken from very low POV. I've got weird feelings about it...

Ciao Steve, beautiful flower, great contrast against blurry BG, good detail and excellent sharpness, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Hi Steve,

I'm sure you and your son had a marvelous trek. I didn't know New Zealand was home to so many orchids! This is a little beauty with wonderful colors, textures and details. I love the composition - simple and beautiful.

Jane

Hi Steeve,
beautiful species, we don't have anyone like this. Very interesting one. You're in the good flowering time too.
How much different species have you?
Thanks for your post, i'm waiting for the others...

Hello Steve,
I wanted to give you critique on this earlier but had no more smileys!
A fine capture of this beautiful little orchid taken from a great POV with excellent sharpness and it stands out well against the OOF natural dark BG.
A great TN contribution and thanks for delighting us with it.
Cheers
Ivan

Hi Steve,
thanks for giving me the idea and tips ina way to improve my shot in my fern shot previously. thanks.
this wild orchid is very lovely in white and well lighted parts. The brownish background is lovely in pushing its colour and clarity out of the canvas. Well done with this discovery and its an original shot.

regards,
Foozi
