Elk in Front of Fall Colors

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is another one of my older photos, now that it is spring time I am posting a photo from autumn :-D
This was taken in Rocky Mountain National Park near the main/ Beaver Meadows entrance. This was taken in October and is during the time when elk are in their rut and mind you at their most aggressive. That doesn't stop hordes of tourists to get out of their vehicles and walk out into the fields and get real close to these large and powerful animals. I took this photo on the side of the road still in the vehicle and with a telephoto lens, as you can tell I still didn't get very close to the animals. There were hundreds of people off the side of the roads watching these animals, so many it was nearly impossible to drive. I remember going to a gas station in Estes Park to get a couple of sodas there was a bull off the side of the road and it was causing a traffic jam anyways I got to the bull and people were literally walking up to the bull at only a few feet distance, I think it got tired of all the people and started chasing several people who then ran into their vehicles. Hopefully that is a lesson to those people that even though they are accustomed to people since Rocky Mountain National Park gets 4 million visitors per year, but these are still wild animals and when in their rut they can definitely be VERY aggressive, and don't forget these animals weigh nearly 1000 pounds so they are many times more powerful than any human and can do some serious harm
I spent the night camping in Rocky Mountain National park near here at the Moraine Park Campground. It was quite the night. I heard these elk bugling all night long, it is quite the sound |

Hi Paul,
Thanks a lot for your kind words on my recent landscape picture.
I read your note first to get a perspective on your picture.
Elks native to your country are magnificent animals and you have captured a herd of them in front of a tree turning autumnal gold. You have thoughtfully retained almost the entire tree within the frame and I like it because it is a signficant component of this composition showing the habitat of these great animals.
The Elk in the foreground -- apparent male -- looks powerful. People should not meddle with these inhabitants of wilderness and your note suggests they do mindless things while visiting such sanctuaries. I have seen similar behavior in my country too, and it really makes me livid.
Thanks for sharing this lovely nature image and best regards.
