[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On June 29, 2008, I shot some pictures in raw and transferred them to my portable disk for later use.
Then I forgot about them.
It was while I was spring cleaning the additional disk that I found the pictures of that shoot. I was also surprised to notice that I had shot my very first Clubtail dragonfly during that shoot.
Pleased with myself, I did some marginal PP work on one of my Clubtail raw pictures and here it is.
Hope you like it.

Though this specimen looks like a Common Clubtail, I am not very sure about it. Mr.Anirudha suggests it could be a Common Oar-tail, but I'm not fully convinced. The markings on the abdomen of my specimen have a different pattern.
For the time being, here is a note on Gomphids in general taken from Wikipedia:

Gomphidae is an Odonata family that contains about 90 genera and 900 species. They are commonly referred to as clubtail dragonflies. The name refers to the clublike widening of the end of the abdomen (abdominal segments 7 through 9). However, this club is usually less pronounced in females and is entirely absent in some species.

Clubtails have widely separated eyes, a trait they share with the Petaluridae and with damselflies. Adults are usually from 40 to 70 mm in length.

Most Gomphids breed in streams or rivers.

Hi Ram!

What a spring cleaning can do! It's a pleasure and funny to read your notes.

:-)

I'm glad to discover this beauty! From my point of view, the composition is particularly delightful and subtle. The leaves form fine and pleasant shapes and are a beautiful support for this dragonfly. You also have nicely framed the picture and this highlights the pleasant aspect at best.

Kind regards

Markus

That's a beautiful one, Ram, the pose is pretty and I love the blue eyes. Excellent shot, thanks and greetings

Hi, that's a lovely pic! however, it most probably a Common Oartail (Paragomphus lineata) and not a Common Clubtail (Ictinogomphus rapax). Identified by it's more oar-like abdominal end. It does belong to Gomphidae too.
This is a good capture tfs!

TFS. Best regards, Leonid

Hello Ram !
I like this butterfly, the colors and the markings are wonderful - I specially like the big, blue eyes. I love the vivid colors, the composition, the POV and the blurred BG very much, as well as the pose of the Dragonfly. It's always nice to see the species from the other end of the world ! :-) Very well done !
Valérie.

Hi Sir Ram, a fine macro capture of a pretty clubtail drgonfly perched on a flatened leaf's tip from nice POV with impressive colours and details. Aprox. 5 days ago i saw the first dragonfly (an Anax sp.) of 2009 and i could took a single shot but not good. The weather is very variable in these day here. Thus i think i have to wait to take a beter one.
TFS this fine image!
Cheers,

Bayram

greeting lou

Beautiful diagonal composition and i love those blue eyes! The framing is good and the colors are natural. Was this picture cropped? it is slightly on the softer side for a macro lens.
