The Six-spot Burnet (Zygaena filipendulae) is a day-flying moth of the family Zygaenidae. It is a common species throughout Europe.

The sexes are similar and have a wingspan of 30-40 mm. The forewings are dark metallic green with 6 vivid red spots (sometimes the spots are merged causing possible confusion with other species such as Five-spot Burnet). Occasionally the spots are yellow or even black. The hindwings are red with a blackish fringe. The adults fly on hot, sunny days from June to August [1] and are attracted to a wide variety of flowers such as knapweed and scabious as well as the larval food plants bird's foot trefoil and clover. The species overwinters as a larva.

The larva is plump and hairy with variable markings, usually pale green with rows of black spots. It pupates in a papery cocoon attached to foliage.

Burnet, without any doubt, is the most spectacular Moth in the world, Siegfried.
This is a great picture of it straddling a pink flower. Nothing could be better than that for a perch.
I have a feeling that the subject has been sharpened a bit too much, but that is really a minor nit.
Well done and TFS.

Hallo Siegfried
Zygaenids are one of my favourite Lepidopteran group. this is one of them and very beautiful. you nicely captured it, with a great focus, POV/DOF, colors and composition. lighting and BG also very nice as like frame. thanks for sharing, best wishes
Ahmet

Hello Siegfried,
the Six-spotted burnet is a beautiful insect and you have captured in a nice way.
Lovely natural colours, well composed with a good POV.
But, as Ram mention is to much sharpen and/or to much cropped,
it's pixelated in the BG and the sharp edges show some bright halos, otherwise it a very fine picture.
Well done.
Gert

Hello Siegfried.

Lieber Siggi,
Ja diese Zygaenae-Familie ist wirklich interessant, aber nicht leicht zu fotografieren! Hier hattest Du ideale Verhältnisse und einen schönen Dekor auch, um das Bild sehr malerisch zu gestalten. Gut gemacht!
Herzliche Grüsse
Anne

TFS and cheers,

Hallo Siegfried
I have seen this moth a few times on the site, but the bright and almost strong colours never stop to amaze me. I just love the almost glittery silvery colour of the wings, and your image brings out this detail to its best. The rather large and thick antennas cannot go unnoticed and stands out well against the lavender coloured flower as backdrop. Thanks for sharing this colourful "picture". Best regards.
Anna
