Spring Brood
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Spring has definitely arrived in England and it is at last possible to get some more butterfly pictures at home. The Holly Blues are still not cooperating, but this male Small White, Pieris rapae, sat still for me for a short while. A chance to get to grips with the new 180mm macro lens.
Perhaps a little too much of the leaf and not enough of the butterfly is in sharp focus. That comes from concentrating too much on the head and antennae. But after this one shot, he flew away and did not settle again. So I am left with just this record of a brief visit.
Only the Spring brood of males has this virtually unblemished forewing. Those from later broods have a black post-discal spot on each forewing, and these seem to be the majority among pictures on TrekNature. |
