While sitting on a popular wildlife watching spot at the Oud-Reemster Veld, a movement in the bushes suddenly caught my eye.
This common vole (Latin: microtus arvalis, Dutch: veldmuis) had hit the jackpot: a fresh apple core. He was busy dragging it back to a safe spot, which was quite hard as the core was about as large as himself.
He nearly didn't even notice me shooting him, and when he did and ran away, he was back within a minute. A fresh apple core! Not something you leave just lying around.
A quick few nibbles later, the apple core was a bit lighter and the vole had regained his energy; he started dragging it back with renewed enthusiasm. |

Hy Erik
A picture how I like: maybe not so sharp, but presenting the small wildlife: a species not very often seen here, in fact, I can very easy count the rodents pictures from TN. Probably to the fact that this animals are nocturnal, and are not so cute like, let say, a squirrel. But, congratulation for your capture and for your reaction speed;
Oana
Hoi Erik,
Een prachtig moment! Leuk hoe de muis je zo aankijkt terwijl ie van het klokhuis eet. Compositie en DOF zijn super. Je bokeh is niet echt lekker om naar te kijken en ik denk dat de foto iets scherper kan.
Groeten,
Niek
This is a verry,verry good picture.
