Sturnus roseus - Pembe Sığırık, Ala Sığırcık [TR], Rosy Starling, Rose-coloured Starling [EN] is a migratory species from the family STURNIDAE (PASSERIFORMES) which represented by two species in Turkiye. Another one is Sturnus vulgaris and I uploaded this species formerly.
Its Turkish name indicates its pinky color. It has rosy pink colors on both side of back and venter. Bill and legs are somewhat orange-yellow. But neck, head, wings and tail are in black colors. The males, especially in breeding season, have elongated head feathers, which is shorter in females.
The species is seen in our country in breeding season and wintering in India and tropical Asia.
It is mainly found in Common Starling clusters and feeds on invertebrates as like later species.
Its summer ranges (or migration) depends on mostly grasshoppers and other insects. These insects are abundant in some years, S. roseus populations are larger and they fallow grasshopper migrations.
Both species of the starlings are very useful bird for agriculture, eating vermins, grasshoppers etc.

This shot was taken in Sultan Sazlığı [Marsh], near Ovaçiftlik Village two days ago. I saw alone specimen in grassland under rain. It fed on grass. I took several shots and went out from the car and I captured
this pose, hunching on the ground.

I'll have to return to Turkey just to see all these wonderful birds that I have never seen in the wild! This Rosy Starling is an amazing looking bird with those unusual colors. I love the sleek black and the pinkish feathers. Excellent details - even the black eye sparkles through the black head. Lovely setting, background and composition.

Herhalde doğru pozlaması en zor olan kuşlardan biridir ala sığırcık.Simsiyah kafa tüyleri arasından aynı koyuluktaki gözleri çok iyi seçiliyor.Açık pembe tüylerde de herhangi bir parlama yok.Fon,kuşun duruşu da 4/4 lük.En ufak bir kusur bulmak mümkün değil.
