[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Ophrys Blithoperta with it's polinator.

Each ophrys species attracts a specific kind of insect species to help polinate it. This Ophrys atracts a certain kind of beetle (Blithoperta). The insect when near the flower is know to be in euphoria and tricked into "mating" with the flower, thus polinating the Ophrys and helping it procreate.

In this case the beetle stayed on the flower for over an hour!

Hi Jeroen,

this is a nice shot, with a great equipement ;-). Sharpness, colors and composition are well chosen!
It is a pity that those bugs become rare in Germany the last years.

Best regards George

Hy Jeroen
Nice, really! To capture the orchid with his polinator. And it seems that the orchid mimics almost perfectly the polinator color. Well done!

Hi Jeroen

An hour!, he must have been enjoying himself. This is the first time I've seen a beetle with an orchid. In Australia it seems to be mainly wasps that are the agents of desire.
Greatr composition, sharpness and DOF.

Chris

Hallo Jeroen,
Groet,
Peter

Hi,
I missed this one... Unforgivable. Thanks to you, the mystery of the polinizator of Ophrys Blithoperta is over. Very impressive. The light and details are perfect, including some satisfaction expression on the beetle which don't know that he is tricked. Great shot!
Catherine

Bonjour Jeroen,
Très belle macro finement détaillée et délicatement colorée.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
