The Nest

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Hi Folks , today's picture is called The Nest , but we should not get the wrong Idea about who's nest this is...
walking along the paths I heard the familiar sound of two wax wings , and I spotted them at this nest , at first I was thinking that I was going to get a nice photo of the two building their nest , but as I watched I noticed that they where not bringing nesting material to this nest , they where taking it away.
they seemed to be of the mind 'why find your own nesting material , when you can just steal it from a smaller bird' , but things did not go all according to this rather unscrupulous plan , on the last two trips that I saw these waxwings making away with this nest , one of the owners decided to put a stop to this thievery , as I watched and snapped photos of the waxwing the smaller warbler came out of nowhere , like a bolt , and literally pelted one of the waxwings off the branch it was on , the other waxwing did not learn the lesson, I saw it coming but the little warbler came down on it so fast that my timing was just not up to the task :-(
after the second attack the two waxwings decided to call it quits on their looting expedition.
the scene took place through quite a lot of bush I was lucky to get even one shot that did not have a blurry foreground twig obscuring the waxwing thievery...
thanks for stopping in , hope that you like it
regards

Nice work Art...these birds are quite beautiful and you have managed to capture it well in such a nice natural setting. I had a Nikon with some good glass for a bit....liked it as well...it does a good job in the right hands eh?

Nice to see this Art. I'm not surprised that this is a fresh nest. I read someplace that if the nesting material is old, it is subject to parasites and the birds don't want it. These Cedar Waxwings are a very stylish bird. It's great you caught it at this opertune moment. TFS your story and your picture Art. Trevor
