Small Heath, Coenonympha pamphilus
Here is a Small Heath butterfly from Turin, Italy. The habitat was old undeveloped grassland with a lot of clover and other wild flowers. This individual has the dark grey, unmarked underside to the hindwing found in many northern specimens.
This picture was taken using two small Nikon SB-R200 remote wireless speedlights attached to the front of the long Sigma macro lens. This helps with additional light, if you can get close enough, and enables quite a fast exposure at a reasonably large depth of field, eliminating the chance of shake for hand-held field work.

Hello Alan,
Good colors; well done fill flash. Wonder how far away these speedlights were. Since they were attached to your lens, they can't be too far away. The result is okay. Thanks for sharing the technique and the image.
