Another abstract art derived from natural history. This is a lichen-covered rock on an island in the middle of a lake in the Laurentian area north of Montreal, Canada.
The area of the image is about a meter square. I played with the orientation and a bit with the colours in PhotoShop (the art side of the image).
Re. the botanical side: I have always taken lichen somewhat for granted, although have sometimes been struck by their textures and colours. Now I'm looking at them with new interest and trying to get to know them. My very amateurish guess is that the commion gray one here is a pamelia; the handsome red - lasallia papulosa (red form of common toadskin)??? |

Good photo, well done, I was surprised that it was it's natural colour but after reading your note, I know more.
I love the texture.
Take care, Yan
