Polyommatus icarus (Common Blue) [in Turk. Çok Gözlü Mavi]

I encountered with plenty of male common blue in groups near the Murat river (Malazgirt, Muş province) while we were going to Erzurum from Bitlis during our last trip. I think they were talking about on global warming and water crisis:). I also attached a WS in vertical framing on this observation.

TFL and have a nice Sunday!
Cheers,

A small butterfly with a wingspan of 20-32 mm. The upperside ground colour of the male is bright blue with a thin black line along the margin and a white outer margin, The underside ground colour is grey with blue-green highlights in the basal area. On the forewing and hindwing, parallel with the outer margin, is a series of black marks outlined with white. Similar markings are present in the cell and within the discal and basal areas of the forewing and hindwing. In the submarginal area there is a series of joined, orange, triangular-shaped marks. The upperside ground colour of the female is brown with a series of orange submarginal marks. On the forewing there is a small black mark at the end of the cell. The underside ground colour is light grey-brown. The markings are similar to the underside markings of the male. In females of the first brood there are mauve highlights on the uppersides, which in some specimens completely replaces the brown colour.

Common blue is a wide-ranging species which flies throughout all Europe, North Africa and all of western and central Asia. The adult butterflies start to emerge at the end of February and are on the wing until the beginning of December in successive, overlapping broods. Overwinters as a pupa. The recorded host-plants are various species of the Leguminosae family. The larvae are attended by ants whilst developing on the host-plant.

It is one of the most common and most widespread butterfly. Recorded in a wide variety of habitats, such as maquis, garigue, phrygana, agricultural land, river valleys and forests, from sea level to the higest points. It is a very common butterfly wherever Lucerne is grown. Observed to be attracted to a wide variety of flowers.

Bayram merhaba,

Hello Bayram !
Wow, what a great picture ! I have also seen such a butterfly meeting, earlier in the summer, also on the border of a river - it's very interesting to capture such behaviour. And the photo is very beautiful as well, with this vivid and vibrant blue color. The butterflies look like jewels. Sharpness and detailes are excellent, as well as composition, POV and WS shot. Very well done my friend !
Valérie.

Merhaba Bayram hocam,

Mehmet

Hello Bayram,
Spectacular shot of these common blues. I believe that the behavior is somewhat common in some species. It's called puddling (as in mud puddles) and the insects are gathering salts, amino acids or other nutrients.
Regards,
Greg

hi MF Bayram!

Hi LBB,

Who but you would come upon a sight like this? These Common Blues are so pretty and delicate looking. Colors and details are fantastic. I love seeing them in all of these different positions. I'm glad I'm not the only one who imagines what butterflies or birds are talking about. It must run in the family :-)

Hello Bayram,

Hello Bayram, WoW what a collection of butterflies. Fantastic details. Great work. I missed a lot of your pictures. Will catch them slowly. Well done professor. Ganesh (smiley tmorw)

Hallo Bayram
How striking and so gorgeous, difficult to describe! I'll start by eggo-ing what Razvan said in the 1st comment to this lovely image and end to what dr Subhash Ranjan noted, and agree to what all the others said in languages I could not understand, and further to that I'll agree to all the other comments that will still be added after mine. Bravo! Bravo! Not only beautiful, but very touching indeed. Thanks for sharing this marvellous shot. Best regards.

"A good man is always a beginner!!! - always willing to learn" Yes...but then they must learn from someone of some thing! this is a teaching image Bayram. And beyond that it is simply lovely in my favorite colour...so mote it be..and so it is written, now imaged.

My dear Big BRo!
What an amazing shot!
Very well done!
I love the blues!!!
Bravo!

Hello Bayram,

Wow! Another great shot from you my friend!

I really like this cluster of butterflies and the fact that we can see the difference between inside and outside of the wings. The sand color compliments very well also the butterflies colors. f/8 was a perfect aperture choice in order to get all of them in focus.

Personnally I think I would have removed the blurred light one near the frame at the top left.

Great shot and TFS!

Michel

Merhaba Hocam,
Çok güzel bir kare olmuş. Mavi renkleri çok canlı ve güzel görünüyor.
