[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The cassowary is a bird of the deep forests of far north Australia, New Guinea and a few of the surrounding islands. It is a member of the rattite family along with emus and ostriches. A shy bird, it has a habit of running with head stretched out through the forest, thus, the 'helmet' atop it's head is an adaptation to protect it when it runs into things.
The cassowary feeds primarily on fruit, though it will also take small animals if available. When cornered, the cassowary is a formidable fighter, using powerful legs tipped with a 5 inch razor-sharp claw on the middle of its three toes to inflict serious damage. It has been responsible for human fatalities and should be treated with caution.

A very unusual shot, great colour contrast,TFS

What a stunning portrait of an unusual animal, very interesting note, too! The colors are great! Well done!

Good capture, especially if you found it in the rainforest. Although there are a couple of places where its regular, they are usually quite shy and avoid people.
