Common Blue female Polyommatus icarus

Swedish name: Puktörneblåvinge, meaning ‘rest harrow blue’. Rest Harrow is one of its larval host plants

This species is so common and widespread in Europe and posted so many times on TN that there is no need to describe it.

The female varies considerably from being almost totally brown to being almost as blue as the male except that the typical spots on the edges of the upper surfaces of both wings are always present while they are absent in the male.
This one is typically coloured.

Small Pasque Flower Pulsatilla pratensis

Swedish name: Fältsippa meaning ‘field anemone’. Found in S. Sweden growing in calcareous soils, especially in the very south and on the islands of Öland and Gotland.

As distinct from the Common pasque flower the flowers always hang and the inside of the flowers is not easy to see without tilting them upwards.
It is found in C. and E. Europe east of Denmark. There are several sub-species, some of which avoid limestone areas.

I took this shot at a distance of about 1.8 meters (6 ft) with my long lens hand-held in ambient sunlight. After moderate cropping and size reduction the image was sharpened.

What a remarkable similarity between the butterfly and the flower, Ivan! This is sheer magic.
The subject looks glorious in the summer sunlight. The wings facing the camera are perfectly captured with very life-like details and colours. The OOF BG is superb.

Hi Ivan,
not your sharpest shot, but the Blue sitting on a Pulsatilla makes for a wonderful composition. Again you are mastering the light so well. So no complaint but much compliment!
Best regards
Dietrich

Hej Ivan,
a good picture of Puktörnen, the colours are nice and natural.
Good sharpness, DOF is maybe a bit shallow but it standout nicely from the BG.
Well done.

Idag kom den första snön, det är visserligen blötsnö men det är en början till vinter. Usch.

Hälsningar

Best wishes & regards.

Hy Ivan
I think that is a very delicate picture, with the butterfly resting on unflowered pulsatilla in a warm spring day. It seems that this butterflies are flying early, considering the fact that pulsatila are between the first flowers in the spring.
My kind regards,
Oana

Ivan

Hola Don Ivan.
Saludos. Un abrazo.

Hello Ivan,
For sure a very special shot, so fine and so primeval (I don't know if this is the right word). I love it, because the Pulsatillas are of my favourite flowers and the way the female P. icarus is posed on it, is just in perfect harmony with the plant. Fine and subtle colors and light too.
A most pleasing posting.
Un grand merci
Amitiés
Anne

Hello,
Like the low contrast between colourful butterfly and flower. Well done.

Hi Ivan.
What a nice subject and three-dimensional image taken with extreme skill. I am amazed with beauty of the similar texture of the plant and butterfly. You have reflected it precisely. Every hair on the stem, leaves and butterfly is visible perfectly. Composition of the shot is outstanding as well as DOF and transmission form razor sharp details to smoothness of the BG. Bravo and thanks a lot for next masterpiece from you.

Hi Ivan,
amazing how this butterfly seems to 'match' the flower it is on. Excellent details and clarity with a first class composition. The light is really nice too, well done!

Hello Ivan,

Great photo.
Nice colours with fantastic details.
Lighting and composition are splendid.
Good definition.

Oooohhhh, Ivan, that's fantastic.
To see this beautiful tiny butterfly on that big flower, amazing.
Both are glittering - and I love the combination of the colours.
I never saw this flower - we call it "Kuechenschelle" in nature.
I think I have to go to the mountains in springtime next year, perhaps I will find one.
Thanks and greetings
Sabine - wishnugaruda

Hello Ivan
it is truly a beautiful capture with very rich colouration: contrast of Polyommatus details is excellent on wings design. Good pose on the flower with great sharpness and good contrast on a very soft background. Very interesting notes.
