[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This photo I offer today has a simple title given to it-Morning Merganser.Morning time is my favourite time of day to photo pretty much everything and especially wildlife as the shadows are longer and colours seen to be so much more vivid, as you see when the day grows longer the sun is higher in the sky and it becomes a much more flat kind of light and colours become more harsh as do exposures in general. The day progresses and the land warms up and the raising air causes distortions that can mar what might be otherwise good photos and by the last of daylight when shadows grow long again, there is a very good chance for haze to mute the sharpness of images until after the night and once again the humidity drops and the air clears up some-bringing back a new morning. The effect of atmospherics is the greatest when a photograph is taken with long focal length lenses over distance, due to spatial compression that occurs with their use and when the air is humid or dusty as later in the day things like sharpness and even colour are harder to deal with,so for me personally I like the first two hours of any given day best for photoing wildlife.

I caught this Common Merganser female facing the general direction of the morning sun and I admired the beauty of the play of light on her and of the quiet of the time of day.Mergansers are diving ducks of large size and are very proficient at catching fish and other aquatic life.I thought about modifying the shadows and highlights this image has but instead left well enough alone as is,the exposure for me at least suits this lovely duck who is just resting and taking in her day.I hope you enjoy my Morning Merganser,a photo taken when a day is young.

Hello Bob,

you show us here an beautiful duck.
Good low pov and in good light, I prefer the head a little lighter but it's still good.
Fine colours.

Gert

Hi Bob!

Indeed, the lightplay in this picture is superb and clearly adds to the value of the picture. There's no better moment for that kind of effect than the early morning. Your picture reflects the morning atmosphere and the superb light conditions at best. Moreover, this atmosphere also gives the feeling of peace, serenity and calm.

Kind regards

Markus

Have a great sunday

Hi Bob,

The subject is well framed. The point of view is allowing me to see the details and colors of the common merganser. the blurred background is putting in evidence the duck. The morning light ids enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
