Oedemera nobilis (Scopoli, 1763)
Family: Oedemeridae

Oedemera nobilis is a common beetle in Western Europe, including the south of England.
The male of Oedemera nobilis, as in most Oedemera species, possesses the hind femora very swollen, whereas in female the femora are thin; the elytra are strongly narrowed towards the apexes, not hiding the membranous hind wings. It is bright green, frequently with a golden or coppery shine; some individuals are blue or violaceous.
Oedemera nobilis is abundant in spring and winter on several flower species. It feeds on pollen and nectar.
Distribution: Western and southern Europe, from the Iberian Peninsula to Greece; it is absolutely common in Mediterranean countries and penetrates in Middle Europe to southern England and middle Germany; it reaches Denmark, where it is rare and sporadic. It is also recorded from the Magreb. It is absent from alpine countries and Eastern Europe.
In England, it is presently in a markedly expansive and consolidational phase, which commenced during 1995. (Wikipedia)

Hi Catherine,
Very nice close-up the details are pin sharp on your subject and allows viewers to enjoy this insect at its best. I like the POV of the top carapace as it shows every detail plus the exposure is non-betrayal and displays the iridescence with full effect. Well done.
Paul :)

Hi Catherine

Wow, what a lovely metallic beetle. Very well captured and presented.

Technically a superb shot with loads of visual impact. The aperture setting ensured a spot-on DOF which captured all the features of the beetle with clear and sharp details while at the same time isolating the BG to place emphasis on the subject. The colours are perfectly presented and the composition was well managed placing the beetle on the 1/3 line horizontally as well as vertically.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Una fotografía casi perfecta a mi entender Catherine. Preciso enfoque. Luz excelente. Amplia profundidad, pero sobre todo:
gran belleza del conjunto!

Enhorabuena.

Bonjour Catherine,

Bonne semaine
Amitiés
Anne

A perfect specimen which demonstrates beautiful iriderscent colours Catherine, the fuzzy BG enhances the metallic green of the bug nicely.
TFS and cheers,
Mehmet

Hi Catherine.
Once more simply amazing macro shot. You have reflected this attractive beetle with precise exactness. Reproduction of the texture and colouration, other tiniest details of the insect and flower heart are stunning. I am also impressed with excellent DOF despite the large aperture value. My compliments and TFS.
Alexei.

Hallo Catherine
A beautiful "in the face" image with great features and details displayed, especially of the fine hairs on the body. I like a close approach image like this one of yours. Make the details more observant to appreciate. The metallic colour is very "catching" and I find the muscular built of the beetle's back legs very fascinating. It looks as if it has done some body building exercises, focusing on the upper legs. The overall "picture" is really super, as it has all the right things, like focus, sharpness and off course, great composition. Best regards and thanks for sharing.
Anna
