[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Months ago I had planned a trip with a friend to photograph a seal colony off Eastern coast of England. It was one of those magical days - we were the aliens in this landscape ruled by - lounging seals were everywhere. This only happens for a few weeks out of the year when the pups are born. This ranks on the top of possible weekend trips in England; however, I realize for many people, just half an hour would be enough to get the idea of scene.

In this photograph, a young seal is lifting his head up to keep clear of the sand blasting across the beach in the strong November winds. I'll tell you something, after seeing these guys scoot along on their bellies all day, I never appreciated having legs so much!

Another image from this trip of a young seal doing this can be seen on TrekEarth. More information about Gray Seals can be found on Wikipedia.

Hello Dan,
Excellent photo in a great atmosphere. Amazing matching colours. Very nice pose, excellent sharpness, details, DOF and low POV. Only the composition is a bit too much centred in my opinion. But, a beauty!
Regards,
Peter

Hi Dan,
this photo show excellent isolation of the subject from the foreground and of the background too.Your focus really is very solid on the seal and the detail is of it exclusively, that makes this a gem of superb control of field of depth. The colour is very nice and your exposure gives a good tonal range to those colours.Than you for giving us a peek of this "smiley" faced seal,it is a pleasure to view.Good man please keep them coming!
