Continuing with the series of images captured in the Ecological Reserve Costanera Sur, I show here a Chimango or Caracara (Milvago chimango), in this case, a specimen captured by the authorities with an injury, reason why one is in group of forty for its recovery.

HABITAT:
Water edges; hills; fields, specially if they are recently built, and sometime in cities.

DESCRIPTION:
Size: 15 - 17 in.
Head dark brown. Upper parts with cinnamon brown feathers and whitish bordered. Throat, chest, abdomen and under tail coverts light brown. Wings dark brown; basal zone of primaries whitish. Tail light brown with brown terminal band. Eyes brown. Bill horny with clearer base. Legs are light gray in male and yellowish in female.

Easly recognizable, either by its characteristic yell or by the pale bands in its wings when it fly.
The nest is built with quite dry branches, lined with soft materials like dry grass, horsehair or even wool and rags, and of deep cup shape. It put between 2 to 4 eggs, of creamy color with reddish stains, and approximately 45 x 35 cms. of average size. Generally, they build it in hawthorns or low trees to heights of 5 to 15 meters on the ground.

Great close-up Ricardo! I like that the bird is looking over the camera, the colours are good too. The only minor niggle is that there is a little over exposure on bewtwee beak and eye - nevermind though, it's still excellent.

nice rapture nd pose . Some pointers, if you do no mind, rather get a profile thanhead on shot with birds - their beaks get distorted on a full frontal. The light is just a bit bright on the right eye. Your name is the Argentinian one for this caracara. How about a seriema?

Very impressive closeup, Ricardo - the textural details on the plumage as well as the look of the eyes almost have something like a "3D" feel to them. A bit overexposed between the beak and the eye, but it's really a "minor niggle", If I may reuse Paul's (PDP) wording ;-) Well done.

I love this portrait and the DOF. Unfortunate for the over exposed area next to the beak

Hi ricardo intresting post , between Paul and Callie I think most things have been said,that said I like the personal stare. What`s this birds speciality in natural prey every species has one? the only thing missing from the notes

You have captured, a good one. Buit it's a shame there comes light from the right side. And what I hate on a photo are fence. Farther the composition is very nice. I have try a WS and I hope you like it.
