Species:
Class Insecta
Underclass Pterygota
Order Odonata
Underorder Zygoptera
Superfamily Lestinoidea
Family Lestidae
Underfamily Lestinae
Genus Lestes
Species Lestes viridis

Lestes viridis is called Emerald Green Damselfly, or Houtpantserjuffer in Dutch.

Features:
Both males and females are greenish with a white underbelly. They have a metallic tinge to them, which is never blue, but more green/golden/copper.
They fly from june to october, and can be found along ponds and canals, where they sit on overhanging branches.

Lifecycle:
The female, after mating, deposits her eggs below the bark of the tree she is sitting on. You can find whole clusters of them on sunny Septemberdays, all busy making sure the eggs live through winter. The eggs hibernate and in spring hatch. The emerging larvae drop themselves in the water below, where in three months they grow and develop themselves into a new damselfly.

Photo:
I took this photo in my backyard. I had never seen this species in my yard before and what attracted me to her (I think it is a female) was how she sat on treebranches instead of on flowers. She quite nicely posed for me.

Postprocessing was done in NeatImage, to clean up some background noise, and then in Adobe Photoshop CS to crop, USM, adjust levels and add border.

Ik vind hem mooi Wendy,
het is net of deze Damselfly een baard heeft, the details of the head are very nice, the pov is concetrated on the head, and that something I like the most. The dof is nice too, there is a lot of light, but I realy like the result, good job,

Hi Wendy,
Excellent capture and well done on the composition.
My only nit, the image is over exposed. Excellent effort.

Mike

Excellent capture Wendy,
Gret POV and good sharp detail. The colours are great, it's a shame about the bit that are OE. But still a great shot.
Thanks for posting

Wendy, lovely and vivid colors.

Excellent composition and pov. Excellent details in the head/eyes.

Congratulations.

Nice portrait of this little fellow. I did a little workshop to get rid of the over-exposure. Hope you like it....
I like the framing; it gives the whole image depth. Good work, Wendy!
