Hi All,

I'm sorry, but I can't help myself. I am a proud All Blacks supporter --- unless they're playing the Springboks of course. I'm sure that this can be forgiven by all the Kiwi's as I've only been in New Zealand for a few months. New Zealand has given me so much in the 4-5 months that I've been here. Photography is one of those things and for that I am very appreciative, I'm sure you understand that a life time of passion for the Springboks is not erased that easily.

Anyway, regarding the animal in focus: The springbok is a very interesting animal. Males are a bit larger than females, and their horns are thicker and the ridges on the horns are more pronounced. Many many years ago, these animals where incredibly numerous and in the last springbok migration, it is estimated that 20 million of these animals migrated across the karoo. Unfortunately the numbers are a lot lower these days, but good numbers still exist. Apart from the more common springbok, black and white subspecies exist. You may be asking why they are called springboks. The answer is plain to see when you see them leaping (The Afrikaans word for leap is spring) very high in the air as they run. If you've never seen it, then I must say that it's quite a sight.

Regards

ZaKiwi

Aha...so now we know where your from.
Don't worry,I'm not a rugby fan at all.
An excellent image here Erich.
Nice detail and well framed, although I think a little more space on the right wouldn't go amiss.
The colours are great and the whole image has a realism about it.
Well done.

Wow, Erich... wonderful capture. The detail and coloring is beautiful. The horns are well displayed showing the ridges. Exceptional.. TFS :-)
