Stumbling on this number of pouch fungi all together was a real surprise.In the North Island I had only ever seen these alone,with sometimes one other nearby.
These are Weraroa virescens,a curious fungi that can be found growing in leaf litter on rainforest floors.
(Thanks to this wonderful site for the info;
The Hidden Forest
I believe it is thought that these fungi distribute their spores only after being nibbled by animals.I have never seen these split open naturally,but older specimens often have holes chewed in them.
Clive will know more than me about these.
They are often a darker blue than this,and underneath have a thick white stalk.
Strange,aren't they ?

Hi Steve, I misread the title as "Blue Porch Fungi"...der!

Odd looking thing, it remonds me of ticks! Honest.

It's a very interesting post, I like the colours and composition. The focus looks a little soft but I am note sure. I have shot fungi before and they often have that look.

Now it looks less like ticks and more like granite.

Well done.
