Like many other similar species its caterpillars eat Violets. The Silver washed fritillary lays its eggs on a nearby tree, and the caterpillars make their way to the foodplant when they hatch next Spring.

Very nice close-up, Christos.
I'm not sure , it could be a Argynnis paphia, Silver-washed Fritillary.
Good POV, nice colours and good details,
Well done.

Nice shot. It is nice and crips. Composition wise the butterfly is a bit to centered.

I did a workshop to crop the image a bit more and did more levels adjustment.

Excellent macro Christos, I like it. Very good colors, details, POV and exposure. It does look just like our Gulf Fritillary in shape and form. Well done!

Known as Silver-washed Fritillary in english.
Rare in Portugal.
