I like the close crop on this and the texture and colour. Suggest to use a different format and crop the left and right even closer.
As to ID, I believe this is the flower stand of a ginger or perhaps a related galangal plant (actual flowers will be between the red "leaves"-there aren't any flowers). There are lots of different ginger varieties. The "roots" (well the storage parts of them) are pretty characteristic with lots of "lumps" (not quite so smooth as the variety you will find in the shops for food). Did you notice the roots?
