English:

Once a male spotted a (supposed) female, it tries to climb on its back and now clings with his arms firmly behind the shoulders of the female. This can happen even during the hike - then the male allows to be led piggyback to the waters. As in many Common toad populations a strong male excess prevails (often in a ratio of 3 to 1 or more), this is an opportunistic behavior in order to secure the partner determination. Rivals are kept at bay with fierce kicks. Male toads, which have yet to find a female encounter, in the spawning grounds from time to time a gentle, slow reputation as the "öök ... öök ... öök ... ". Short, louder and emitted sounds in rapid succession ("UEK, UEK, UEK") are "liberation cries" of males, which are bracketed by other males mistakenly. Such vocalizations can be heard much more frequently than the actual mating calls.

Deutsch:

Hello Helmut,

When the resources are scarce - this type of liberation cries - from hoarding monopoly is quite good. In the deep seated Confucian societies - like ours and our neighbours - already a gender imbalance prevails - though not this skewed. If not corrected soon, then one can guess the future through your picture.

Btw, a very nice silky pic with crisp details. Love is in the water & its colour is blue. Nice ambience.

TFS,
Subhayan.
