[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this photo back in January of this year with my EOS 10D.

This is a Northern Cardinal whose brilliance was blinding in the dead of winter. Fortunately, for us in New England, these birds stay put and don't decided that a trip to Florida would be nice until Spring. This leaves us with some color and flash to enjoy year 'round.

The Northern Cardinal is one of the few birds that I think the female, although very different in color from this male, is just a pretty and showy as the male. Sometimes a Cardinal can be seen at a feeder, but they are mostly "ground feeders". Cardinal couples are rarely far from each others side and are more like a marriage than most bird species.

This big brave fellow, puffed up to keep warm on this particularly cold day, posed for me while I took quite a few shots. I have this one blown up and framed hanging on my dinningroom wall.

Wonderful. The contrast of the red Cardinal against the dull BG is fantastic!

Callie is going to go through the roof, he loves fat, fluffy birds. The contrasting bright red vs dull grey BG makes this a brilliant compo. Top-notch work. TFS.

Very nice

wow quelle photo !
very nice done.

This is a wonderful shot. The bright red of the bird is superb.Keep up the good work.

Lovely shot! You've actually made me come out in goosebumps, and it's not because I can see the cold - it's because this is an amazing image! The contrast between the cold tones of the background and the warm brilliance of the cardinal is impressive - and I think the framing is perfect, not centred, but looking into the blank space. Focus is excellent, as is the DOF. Personally I might sharpen him a little more, but otherwise nothing to criticise at all. An excellent capture :-D

Lovely work Lesley. He stands out like a sore thumb. I wonder how many fall victim to Birds of Prey?

Hi Lesley
Fat and fluffy - Great, but I dared a WS, where I also wrote my comments. Keep them rolling, and like Japie said, don't leave, please! Some more fat chicks will be in order!

Very nice shot! It's a beautiful bird to take a picture of. The bright red looks great against the background! The only thing that I might clean up is the stick that seems to be running through the head. Overall though, it's a very nice shot!

Excellent image, Lesley. Great composition and fantastic colours.

A beautiful bird and very nicely captured, great pose he is giving you.
Excellent composition and DoF.
Lovely,very well done.

Splendide. Merci. Rudy.

Lesley, This has the "wow" factor that's a treat for the eye. The contrasting color composition with that eye-popping red is fantastic! Many postive elememts that make this a great one! Very well done!!

This composition and colours seem to be taken from a tale. Did you desaturate or the almost B&W background is natural? Thanks for posting.

Beautifull Cardinal Lesley. Callie did a very good workshop.
I saw cardinals very often and the male has really those colors. Good work and thanks for sharing.

Imagen superior... definitivamente.

Superb image... definitively.
The beauty of the model helps, but the sharpness, the colorful one, POV and DOF obtained are excellent.

I am not surprised you have this one printed and hung, it has a real wow factor with his zingging reds and the almost B&W BG make it almst 3D. Nice one.

This is an excellent shot, I love the black band through the face. I haven't seen this species illustrated so well before. I would have printed this one to, you have done very well. TFS.

Beautiful Bird !

That's one hell of a photo. The brightness of the bird against the grey of the branch and background is outstanding.

I guess he's getting cold. Beautiful. shot. Focus is perfect. Good notes

Very very nice 'catch', I wonder how far did you takethis shot from?, the grey color is a perfect background for this beautiful Cardinal orange color! the low temp is also sensed in this image (white 'powder' on the feathers and tree bads)

lesley this is a truly wonderful bird which i very much to shoot. unfortunately we do not have them in turkey. the red and grey combination does a very good job here and makes it better than other cardinal photos. very well done. best regards..

Striking color combination and beautiful pose of this cardinal, helped by the fact he's fighting against cold with his puffed feathers. I like the V-shape framing and the contrasting dull grey background with your subject. One more favorite!

Fantastic shot, love the red color :).

Great capture. From what I've seen previously, digital cameras have difficulty in dealing with such a mass of red. However, you've handled it perfectly. Well done.

Hi Lesley,

I love this cardnial shot. Beautiful striking image with great colours & detail. Thanks for showing.
