[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
If I remember correctly, this is my first photo of wasp on TN. Wasps are hard to capture - they're fast moving and always make problems with DOF :-)

A wasp is any insect of the order Hymenoptera and suborder Apocrita that is not a bee, sawfly, or an ant. Less familiar, the suborder Symphyta includes the sawflies and wood wasps, which differ from the Apocrita by having a broad connection between the thorax and abdomen. Also, Symphyta larvae are mostly herbivorous and "caterpillarlike", whereas those of Apocrita are largely predatory or parasitic.

Most familiar wasps belong to the Aculeata, a division of the Apocrita whose ovipositors are modified into a venomous stinger that includes ants and bees. In this sense, the species called "velvet ants" (Mutillidae) are actually wasps.

A narrower meaning of the term wasp is any member of the Aculeate family Vespidae. This includes the yellowjackets (Vespula, Dolichovespula spp.) and hornets (Vespa spp.).

Great macro Greg! Superb details and very nice colors. Maybe you should have left less space in the bottom and a bit more in the top, but that's a minor nit. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Hi Greg,
It's a beautiful catch. The DOF is well for this picture,
the wasp is sharp and the BG is in OOF, so its well seen from the BG, The composition and POV are very good.
Very well done.

Wooow.. Greg... Excellent macro shot. Excellent details and good tones of colour. Great POV and excellent DOF. A great capture, very well done.

yes, you manage to capture the actively move wasp with great DOF. i believe that is the kind of effect you always wanted? congratulation!

What is sharpness? - I only can tell you - look at this photo, than you will know.
That's the perfect shot.
That wasp is sitting a little abstract on this flower, that doesn't look comfortable!
Thanks and greetings
Sabine - wishnugaruda

Nice capture Greg,
Very sharp detail, good colour and Perfect DOF. Good composition and framing.
Thanks for posting, have a good week.

This is VERY well done! The details are great and I love the fact that we can even see the textures on the wasp's body. Good composition too. This is how it should be done!

(PS: Have you tried cropping a bit off the bottom, to get rid of that horizontal blade of grass right at the very bottom of the photo? I find that it distracts my focus just a little bit.)

Hi Greg,
Superb wasp shot here. I was so use to your beautiful butterfly shots, I was fooled by this for a moment. But like your butterflies, this one is perfect also.
Scott

Very good photo, Grzegorz,

ID for this insect: Vespidae, of course, but genus Polistes (klecanka), rather small wasps building small, umbrella-like nests without outer cover.

Best wishes, Marek

Hi Greg!
I don't have enough time to write a decent comment ;) but the big smiley is, no doubt, well deserved here :)
