| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This was one of many happy times I spent with the Harbor Seals at Salisbury State Park. I started photographing them in Feb.2004 and spent a good month visiting with them almost everyday.
I would wait until low tide to see my furry friends because the rocks in the harbor would be exposed and the seals climbed up onto them to bask in the winter and early Spring sunshine. At times there were so many it looked more like a "pig pile" with seals crammed into the rocks and laying on top of each other. Each one was visually different from the next with colors ranging from white to black with all shades in between including red, and a leopard spot coat. They are very curious about the human on the shore who sits and watches them for hours. At times they even got brave enough to swim close to shore and pop their little heads up and stare directly at me before popping back under the water in a wink of the eye.
I watched them play with each other with fun frolicking in the water doing the most agile rolls and dives and jumps right out of the cold waters. This is in complete contrast to how they move on land where they become weighty and clumsy and it takes great effort to move.
There were times when the younger seals played a little game of " peek-a-boo" with me and other moments when they shared tender moments of love and flirtation with each other in the water.
I went back to see if they were still around just three days ago and I was able to spot perhaps a half a dozen, but I am hopeful as the winter rolls around that the 100's of Harbor Seals will once again return to this little harbor to delight those who brave the cold to watch and admire them.
This was taken with my EOS 10D. I am most anxious to see results this season with my EOS 1D MKII as it has proven to be a lot sharper or at least let me say it allows the lenses to do what they were made to do. |

Very nice work Lesley, it's a good scene and gives a very realaxed and friendly feeling. Well done, nice note.
Besides having the ability to take picture perfect shots you have this fascinating storytelling notes. Always a pleasure... Thanx for sharing.

Intresting you side coment on the 10D to 1D mkII as at some time in the not too distant future I hope to move back to SLR but yet to chose make or model but it needs to be tough and give good results like this and more ;0))#

Incredibly sharp. I can see you were some distance away, so the dof you achieved here, is impressive. And the sleepy way they all look at you is really funny.

Lesley, cute and lovely shot. They seem to be looking at you as asking themselves: "What's that crazy guy doing there?". Nice shot, great POV and sharpness.
