This is Bulgaria, believe or not :-)

Since many years I've been fascinated with the classic B&W landscape photography performed by the Great Master - Ansel Adams - mostly in the western part of the US. Being in Bulgaria some years ago I found this landscape so similar to what he pictured.
I hope it will not sound too pompous if I say that:

This is a TRIBUTE TO ANSEL ADAMS and to the way he saw the world. Naturally, respecting the scale between him and me.

Now, more about the place. The Belogradchik Rocks are near the town of the same name. This is a very old settlement, among the rocks you may found an incredible fortress buill already by Romans and reconstructed by Bulgarians and Turks during the centuries.

The unique rocks of Belogradchik were molded by the nature in the course of 200 millions of years.

Their formation has started as a result of the Early-Alpine tectonic cycle, when the red sandstones and limestones were on the bottom of the huge sea and the earlier folded Paleozoic rocks remained on dry land and began to deform. Their characteristic red colour is due to iron oxides and hydroxides.

The processes of weathering, detonation, river erosion, freezing, growth of moss and lichen, as well as other natural factors that lasted for millenniums, resulted in the formation of a multitude of fantastic figures and compositions. Not great imagination is required to recognize in the rocks “The School Girl”, “The Mushrooms”, “Haidouk Velko”, “The Bear”, “The Eagle”, “The Madonna”, ”The Monks” and many others.

Hi Michal,
I thought I was looking at an Ansel Adams print for a moment. Perfect composition and framing on this shot. The conversion to B&W makes this shot very nice. Beautiful scenery!
Scott

Witaj,
gratuluję tysi±ca. My¶lę, że jeszcze ich trochę będzie. Tutaj fajny pokaz górskiego pejzażu w B&W. Dobry tekst opisu tego miejsca.
Pozdr. Al.

I am constantly surprised with the places people post TN, I would never in million guesses have picked this as a Bulgarian landscape, supurb. Excellnt choice of media too, the b/w works really well. amazing.

Hi Michal, very good composition and I think the B&W works well here. I like all the tones and you are right...it does look look like one of those shots you'd see in a cowboy movie - where's the sniper? :-)

I think it's all very good but I wonder if it is oversharpened a little?

Well done.

Sliczna fotka!
Akurat skaly chyba nawet lepiej wygladaja w B&W albo sepii niż w kolorze. Zdjecie jest bardzo dobre technicznie i ogolnie swietnie wyglada.
Co do miejsca to troche mi to przypomina nasze Karkonosze, tyle ze skaly wygladaja bardziej okazale.
Pozdrowienia :)

Its amazing to see such beautiful locations like this. Makes it worth a visit for sure.

Very ncie shot and l like the B & W and border surrounding this. Well done.
