CORMORANT, CORMORAN huppé (F) (Phalacrocorax aristotelis) Lenght 65-80 cm, wingspan 90-105 cm
Another maritime bird flying sometimes inland, following rivers where they find fish. Not really appreciated by fishermen, because very greedy. When perched, easily recognizable because they often stay with stretched wings, with a shape reminding a bit prehistoric birds pointed wings.
Black feathers with greenish reflections. When they wear their nuptial plumage, they have a little crest. Young ones (like here) have a clear neck. They fly fast, very close to the water.
This one was on the Seine river bank. There are many of these who seem to stay on the river from year to year. They can be found perched on poles and dead trees on the banks of the many islands separating the river arms. To my surprise, this one was on a little quay near the lock. I approached very slowly and as small a possible up to about 10 meters. He turned several times his neck left and right, then plunged in the river, still looking around. I don't know about other places, but here, 10 meters is the closest I've did up to now.

USM (70-1-1). Cropped about half of the original.
Speed was preset on 1/1000, to capture (in case) the flight.

Bravo! Belle composition... et merci de partager.

What a wonderful fella! I like his pose. Good DOF and colours.

I like a good shag.(Thats what these are called in NZ)You were careful approaching the subject and as a result ended up with a great shot.Very clear and natural looking.

Nice shot and pose of this bird. Great supportive note too. Thanx for sharing.

Composed well with a nice pose from your Cormorant. Great clarity & details..Well done!

Beautiful Jean Michel. I think you have done a very good job here. The details in the feathers are good and the bird contrasts well against the blue water. Nice work and thanks for making the effort to write and interesting note.

Excellent capture Jean Michel. Amazing clearness, wonderful colours and very clever handling of the light leaving details in the dark back. I really like these birds because of their majestic look.

beautiful photo. Sharp and nice colors. The cormorant do a great contrast on the blue waters and the details are greats
