[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Three butterflies discovering the sweet nectar of a zinnia bush.
Taken at the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago.

I have no idea what species of butterfly this is, but I can tell you that the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven is a photographer's haven. The butterflies are a-plenty and seem to be friendly to photographers (they don't fly as much). Butterflies come from seven different countries including Costa Rica, Malaysia, Kenya as well as native (American and Illinois) butterflies. Adjacent to the enclave is a breeding lab and interactive exhibits on the butterfly and moths.

I was testing a new lens (the Nikon 70-200mm VR) at its full extension, hand held in the relatively low light of the butterfly encave. ISO 400. Not much post processing except a mild USM after resize.

This is a lovely shot! The composition is wonderful and I like the motion blur of the last butterfly. Colors are stunning. The only thing I think might have improved this a smidge is perhaps a faster shutter speed as the middle butterfly is slightly out of focus probably because it was moving. What ISO did you use? Perhaps is you shot this at a low ISO bumping it up to 400 or 800 might have increased the shutter speed. Just a nit-pick though.

Brilliant. Good Focus and magical compo. The blurred background is just right. This is a superb shot.

Perfect natue image with the dynamic feelng set by the blurred wings of the right one, the three but. are completing each other and add different dimension to the overall iage. I love it (colors and other stuff are obvious...)
