Hi Stephanie.
I have been looking at your gallery, and I guess you are taking all this macros in the "automatic mode" of your powershot.
Auto mode is not vey good in macro with sun, because the aperture (in this case f:4.5) is too big, so a lot of light enters the cam burning the subjects in the photo.
Try to use aperture priority mode, and adjust aperture value until you get a speed between 1/80 and 1/200. You will see how DOF and light changes.
