Topaz Blue Butterfly (Azanus jesous)

This is my first butterfly. They are just as hard as dragons to shoot. They hardly ever sit still.

They are fairly small. (Wingspan 24mm). The blues are restricted in females to the basal half of the wing. (I guess this is a female). They can be spotted by low erratic flying. They enjoy the flowers of Acacia trees and the Larvae feed on Acasia leaves. They are very common in the bushveldt area.

She is part of the Lycanediae family or also know as Blues or Coppers.

I hope you like her, I love here beacause she's my first butterfly I captured in the botanical gardens in my hometown.

Well I wouldn't believe it's a first, it's very good. I didn't know that pollen caused diarrhoea! :-0

Very nice work Gerhard, can't wait to see your next attempts.

Hi Gerhard
Congrats on your 1st b'fly. Also a ground hugging species, which makes life even more difficult for us to nail them. Very nice, now, where is the one on the wing?

I still can't believe the patience you have, but I see it come with great shots! Very well done, must have been hard finding one of those in the Freestate ;-)

Another excellent macro, Gerhard. Colour and sharpness perfect. Mooi werk!

Gerhard, Very good "back door" :-0 strategy on this - what your photo may lack in sharpness, it makes up in "Poop" appeal! ;-). Great title and good details with just the wings falling out of your DOF a bit. Isn't chasing these things around fun! It's a great post! Thanx!!

Very nice macro Gerhard. Wonderful colour and markings on that little critter. Well done.

I thought they only drank nectre?
well for a 1st this is brilliant considering how much extension tubes shorten the DOF this one is pretty sharpe. Best shot in the cool of the morning before they get warmed up.Keep them coming.

Very nice Topaz Blue Butterfly Gerhard. I like the POV. Maybe you used some Hi-Teck tenhnics and atlethic postures to take this shot :). TFS.

Good stuff Gerhard. It's a lot harder shooting insects than I had though. You've done well here. And she's a beauty.
