[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Having searched the Internet and looked through a few books I'm still not sure what this bird is.

While visiting Belfast zoo back in August I noticed this little bird high up in the dense foliage. He would not show himself clearly and only while I was focused on another bird did he briefly fly down onto this branch before taking off again.

This was the only shot I got of him. I would have liked to have had more time to capture him from a different angle so as to avoid "that window". I still feel its worth posting though.

You did well with what you had, Stephen! I would have mirrored it, and cropped a bit more to the side. Will do a WS if I have time later today. I'm sure one of the Three Musketeers will be able to tell you what it is(Callie, Gerhard, Japie) ;-). Thanks for posting anyway.

Hi Stephen

Nice crips clear image. Excellent plumage detail. DOF is great. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Stephen,

Brilliant shot, clarity way up there. Don't worry about the window it's a minor nit. I love seeing this strange bird. Love to know what it is. Will search later.

Bonita ave, fundamentalmente por su colorido en el pecho y cola.
Tal vez el POV no sea el óptimo por el fondo edificado y la posicion del ave, pero la diagonal de la rama y lo atractivo de la especie, amerita su publicacion.

Pretty bird, fundamentally by its colorful in the chest and tail.
Perhaps the POV is not optimal by the built bottom and the position of the bird, but the diagonal of the branch and the attractiveness of the species, deserve their publication.

Stephen, I like the POV with a good head nod/look back pose. Diagonal branch works well also. Maybe a little tighter crop..Too bad they don't have a "Bird Poop" from branch removal tool in Photo Shop?? ;-)))

Very nice capture Stephen, I have no idea as to ID...I bet Callie will know. I liek the birds ready to jump look and the composition is good, the window is a little bit of a shame but I'm glad you posted it.

I like Howards suggestion to Adobe.

I'm at the office and my books are at home, but the head and beak is very much the same as our Barbets. When I shoot agains an unsuitable background I test a couple of shots, each time at a larger aperture. At some stage the background will become blurred and not matter anymore. In settings like this DOF can be an enemy as well.

I must say that the background did not actually bother me in this shot.

The sharpness is very good and the DOF too good:)

Thanks for posting

I like the crispness of the shot. The detail is very good. Well Done

Stephen
Nice birdie, but Not one I have ever seem maybe that is why he is in the zoo, I agree with Riaan on the crop and the mirror, the window wil be even less of an issue then.
As For bird Poop scoop, use the clone stamp tool - stamp it out, do Not stomp it out.
