Umbrella Mosses
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
From a shot like this it's easy to see how most of the Earths freshwater is held in rainforests.
Like something from a Dr Seuss book, these umbrella mosses are found throughout New Zealand in low lying damp forest areas. Occassionally they occur at higher altitudes, even on forested mountain ridges in damper months, but often dry out in the summer.
Hypnodendron and Hypopterygium are the two umbrella mosses. This particular species, I believe,is Hypnodendron Colensoi.
Taken hand held using auto focus. Gamma correction and sharpened in Irfanview.
DOF could be better. (An older photo) |

Steve, I must say that this is a very pleasing shot with a great POV!. A great supporting note also..I must also say that until you tripod & get away from hand-held & use timed or remote shuttering you'll never be able to close-down that aperture to increase your DOF & sharpen-up your image! I understand this is an older image so I forgive ya - this time! ;-)))) P.S. LOL! Howard!!!!

O.k. Steve, I'll find you some Canadian moss. I did promise you, You beat me. :) :) :)
This is an excelent capture. I like moss for the texture it gives in a pic, yet soft by the touch.
Well done
