NOTE: This picture is probably about 1-1.5 mm high.

Another 'monster' shot from my aquarium. Today close-up of head of Phantom Midge Larva. Not very pretty, isn't it? One day I sat down and was watching how these creatures hunt. It was really impressive. They float in water, their body is almost transparent - victims don't see them. Where one of Dapnias or Cyclops swim close enough Phantom Midge Larva suddenly makes move like released spring. Too fast to see its move! Split second later victim is in Phantom Midge Larva jaws.

Photo taken with support of reversed Helios lens.

Hello Greg, great shot and I appreciate just how small this is. I think you did a wonderful job. I don't know how tasty I am but I may be a little too big for this one, I won't be afraid to go back into the water :-)

Czesc,
Dalszy ciąg eksperymentow i jak widze dalsze sukcesy :-) Kto by sie spodziewal ze takie efekty mozna osiagnac za pomoca starego dobrego Heliosa przymocowanego do cyfrowki. Az mnie kusi zeby tez sprobowac :-)

Piekny "detaliczny" portret. Larwy wodzieni zawsze wydawaly mi sie jednymi z najbardziej odlotowych zwierzakow w naszych wodach :-)
Serdecznosci,
Michal

Hi Greg,
wow, again such an interesting shot.
I hope you're not angry when I tell you what I see in your shot.
It looks like Casper the friendly ghost, transparent, with dark eyes - only the head with the neck coming into the shot from the right. Can you also see him now?
Hope, you laugh with me about my crazy phantasies, but it's realy Casper, indeed!
Thanks and have a wonderful day, bye

Hello Greg!
Wonderful and unusual capture again.Lighting, details and framing are excellent.TFS...:-)

Hi Greg,
Another very interesting shot from your Macro soup. Next time I have my chicken noodle soup I am going to wonder whats really in it. Great job with your lighting and photography techniques to get this shot.
Scott

Ja tam uważam, że larwy wodzieni sa wyjątkowo brzydkie :-)
Ale zdjecie mi sie podoba choćby z tego powodu że sama nigdy bym czegoś tkaiego nie potrafiła zrobić!

Hi Grzegorz.
It seems to more than flea than a Casper as wishnugaruda sayed.
I think you did a very good job with this macro.
well done.
Taba

I really appreciate this work with the reversed lens Greg. It's an area of macro photography I've yet to explore. Very well done & Merry Christmas my friend!

Grzegorz bonjour, very intructive capture. Good details !! It's a monster as you said. Good note too. Merry Christmas, Didier.

Good shot! You've captured this Midge Larva well. Focus is spot on, and sharpness is good - perhaps a little more DOF would have been useful, but that would probably require a lot more light. About the only criticism I have are the coloured fringes around the edges, particularly at the bottom right - obviously a lens issue, so not much you can do at the capture stage, but post process there are a few things that'll help (See my Workshop for some suggestions). Well captured, thanks for sharing :-D

Very nice exploration of the micro world Greg, getting a magnification like this is an effort alone. You make the most out of it with this image. Have a good christmas!

Grzegorz, great to know the "monsters" are back.

Another very nice one from your aquarium.

You've been doing great things with your camera.

Congratulations on your skill.

Good morning Greg,
Very busy and rushed morning.
I can see this shot is well worth a big smiley.
Thanks for posting, have a good day.

sUpEr!
Your macro soup pics are getting better and better!
I love this one, the details are amazing.
I dared a workshop too, but this time I did not care about artistic result, what I wanted is more details, I think there is some info hidden in the dark parts :D
Regards, Felipe.
