Garden Locust Nymph
Acanthacris ruficornis

I am not 100% sure of the ID. The nymphs of most insects I find very difficult to ID. Based on geographical distribution and the frequency of their findings in my neck of the woods I hope I am right.

The holidays have passed and our gifts have been stored away in drawers and closets. Fresh memories of our own unique blend of holiday surprise, happiness and disappointment are with us.

New Years stimulates reflection about new promises to keep and old promises to renew. We think about ourselves, our friends, our family. And we think about the life we’ve been living and the life we want to create.

My New Year’s wish for each of you is, that you discover the gift of simply being YOU.

There exists in most of us the belief that, if only we could “fix” ourselves we would be happy and find our lives, fulfilling. While I do believe that the impulse towards personal growth is important (and often admirable) such endeavors do not necessarily lead to happiness.

So what does? Experience has taught me that the greatest source of happiness and well-being comes from simply being who we already are. Each time we face our truth, each time we express what we really feel, each time we commit to action that we know to be in our best interest—we feel happy. The response to being true to our self is simple light heartedness.

Therefore I dedicate this newly born grasshopper to you. May your future (...and his) be as bright as the flower it rested on during the afternoon showers.

Ps. It was very small and I posted a WS to try and show you the size.

Hi Gerhard,
that's bright allright! Excellent post and the red-green complementary colour combi really makes him jump at you.
I like your note too. Often true and well said. It does need a degree of self-reflection and willingness for regular reality-tests. Growth is something I consider important, but never without knowing personal limits as well as knowing in which direction to grow.
Regards,
Gabi

What sort of distance away were you from it, and was it hand held? self intrest here trying to learn about what to expect from the new lens and camera when it arrives, even Nikon cannt tell me when I might get it, but it will happen.

Hi Gerhard,
First the colors here are amazing. Very beautiful. Second, you can almost feel the texture. Detail is very sharp. This is a superb photograph!

Hello Gerhard, a Happy New Year to you. I'm glad to see that you are enjoying your new lens and camera. This is a lovely compostition and great details especially for such a small one. Maybe the reds are a little oversaturated but the green on red contrast looks great.

Nice to see you around here :-)
