hello can anyone tell me what kind of bird this is please? I have never seen this bright feather feature on a duck before and its not featured in my book of birds either. Sorry for the quality of the image it was kind of a hasty one. This picture was taken in Sodertalje guest harbour on 6th January 2006

Hi Armand,

Welcome to Trek N.

Excellent effort on the capture of the rare "Ellstrom Duck." ;) Mostly found throughout Sweden. ;)

I did a workshop using curves.

Mike

Good capture of this unusual bird, The workshop from Mike is also a good one. Well done Both.

Armand:
Jokes aside, I think it's a domesticated miniature strain of the Mallard generally known as a "call duck." They are small, cute, fully flighted but, ultimately, man-made.
Best wishes, Nigel.

Well Armand , I have just spent some time trawling through my bird books and the net and i still do not have a name for you, Though I suspect that it is a either a juvinile bird or a male half way through a moult before it gets its proper colours. TFS
