This is an elephant beetle. This is a female whose male counterpart is known as the hercules beetle, and has large horns that extend from its head.
As we were leaving the beautiful town of Manzanillo I noticed this bug sitting on a leaf outside of our room. The other picture that I took showed the size of the beetle better but unfortunatly did not turn out very well. To give you an idea of how big this beetle was make a fist, put the fist down on a blank sheet of paper, and trace it. Voila.... thats about the size. Creepy. |
