This is the first time I do a combo of many photos on 1 post. Therfore first technical problem I hat is to get it compressed down to under 200 KB yet to keep some sharpness on the pictures. It's up to you guys to tell me how good or bad job I've done.

So I'll present you several romanian mushrooms from Amanitaceae family.
I'll not describe the species, just give you a list with the names, starting from left to right and up to down:

1. Amanita muscaria - poisonous
2. Volvariella bombycina - edible
3. Amanita rubescens - edible
4. Pluteus cervinus - edible
5. Amanita fulva - not edible
6. Amanita gemmata - poisonous
7. Amanita phaloides - deadly poisonous
8. Amanita caesarea - edible, very good
9. Amanita pantherina - very poisonous

There are 51 species of fungi belonging to Amanita family in Romanian Flora. All of them contain some poisonous alcaloids. In the edible species the poison decompose in harmless products after boiling. In poisonous ones, they don't...

Hi Petru,

great collage, nice selection with the colourful ones interspersed. For easier overview, I would consider framing the poisonous ones additionally in a different colour.

As to compression problems:

You will not need to compress terribly much if you RESIZE beforehand to desired resolution (72 ppi is fine for monitor viewing) and dimension (use pixel untis, TN allows 800 pixel for the largest side). Once resized, from a compression level of 0-12 (12= not compressed), when saving, I can usually keep compression to a minimum around 9-11, occasionally 8 is needed. I have not yet noticed any compression artifacts.

After resizing, it is a good idea to sharpen again before saving, even if you already sharpened beforehand. This should always be the last step, though as I like a higher resolution version too, I usually prepare a 300 ppi one, sharpen, resize, and sharpen again.

When sharpening a resized = smaller image, I usually use USM, and then select a considerably smaller diameter (0,1-0,4) than for the higher resolution 300 ppi version (for the larger one 1 to 1.4 usually works best - best found out by trial and error). The optimal radius also depends on the format/size/dimensions of the photo you use (i.e. pixel or inch or whatever unit you prefer).

If you or anyone has different suggestions, I would be happy to hear them, I am not long at this and would like to improve!

Wonderful collection of these mushrooms, each shot a good one, Thank you!

Kind regards,
Gabi

Deadly band Petru ;-) I'm surprised that few of them are edible. All photos look very nice, but my favourite is Amanita gemmata.

Hi Petru,
it seems to me that your fungi are very well. Your composition is for extending and doing poster.I think that is very well that you have written the names of the mushrooms.
Greetings.

Very nice presentation Petru. Interesting looking and colorful fungi with good sharpness, details and color. I think #2 is bit OE. 8 out of 9 works for me! ;-)
Well done & Thank You!

Very nice overview of these mushrooms !
TFS !

Hi Petru,
this is a beautiful work, each photo is so marvelous and interesting. Also a pretty combination of the colours. I love your collage very much, thanks

Superb post Petru!
I like such combos sometimes and this one is very well done. The sharpness on each photo looks fine to me. It's a bit worse with exposure. Maybe it's becuase of the resizing, but it seems some places are a bit hot.
Anyway, that doesn't matter here.
I like the post very much!
VERY WELL DONE & TFS!

Great job!

Hi Petru,
An outstanding collage of fungi here. I think you have good detail in all the shots despite their small size. Beautiful colors and textures here. Superb presentation.

Hello Petru
I happened on your pictures accidentally while looking for other fungi images. I don't think i'm a photographer of your calibre, probably, but you and possibly others might like to know my observations on your descriptions. It may mislead some less knowledgeable on fungi if they group pics 2 & 4 with the Amanitas (family Amanitaceae) since both belong to another family, the Pluteaceae. When talking edibility, especially Amanitas, you need to be absolutely sure! (Although I mostly agree with your ratings, A.fulva, known as the Tawny Grisette, has generally been regarded as a good edible fungus in western europe for many years).
I hope these remarks are of help.

Also with amanitas!!! A great view to see, and really colorful, congratulations.
I have a problem. I read the wonderful conserves you make with the Hydum, but these days I was very busy and did not save it. I did not even reply your message, forgive me.
I thought it was a reply in a TN photo, so I looked for it but I cant find it now, and it was very interesting.
Do you remember how did you send me or where did you post the receipe?
Thanks very much again for youe effort on this composition.
Best regards, Felipe.
