[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi, the doctor diagnose me with tick-fever during the week so I am at home but I can't stay in the bed and do nothing all the time so I decided to post a photo. This is not the best shot but I just want to share my experience with you all. I was actually crawling towards another water monitor but then I saw this one eating a fish on a rock. When he saw me he was running so fast into the water with his meal and I was trying my best to get a nice shot but this one is the best of all the shots. Hope you like it.

General Information
Distribution — Ranges from South Africa north to Egypt.

Habitat — Hot and often dry habitats along the banks of streams and rivers. Very seldom found far from a body of water.

Adult Size — May grow as long as 2 meters but adults are typically between 1.5 to 1.8 meters.

Temperament — Monitor lizards, in general, are known for being nervous and difficult animals to deal with.

Longevity — Water Monitors are relatively long lived animals. They can live to be 20 - 25 years of age in captivity.

Captive Care — Due to this animal's unpredictable nature and large adult size, it is potentially dangerous. This species does not belong in the hands of anyone but the most experienced keeper.

Diet: Monitors typically eat anything they can get into their mouth. However Water Monitors enjoy snails, crabs, eggs (especially those stolen from Nile Crocodile nests), fish, and rodents.

Hi Odette
Excellent capture. Good details and sharpness. The monitor contrasts well with the muddy water.
Good that the doctor as diagnosed you early so I hope you won't have a long term illness. Get better soon.

Action! Great! It is not always easy, but the best wildlife shots are action shots of some kind, them doing things. Maybe not your best shot, but good enough for me. Hope you get better quick from the tick feaver.

YES!!! Its even better than I though. Very well done under these conditions, Odette. Nice crop and frame.

I read that you are not satisfied with this photo. Though here are some technical problems, it's not the only criteria for good photo. Fact is that it's one of the most interesting ones I have seen here. Congratulations!
